There can be lots of people around us, but that lonely feeling persists. Anxiety striking again isn’t it, this persistent stress and anxiety over the smallest of issues, no one who we can talk to who would understand what we’re going through. There just didn’t seem to be any way I could see as to “how to be anxiety free”.

There was no understanding within me as to what was happening or that there was a multitude of people who were suffering just like me. The anxiety attacks would come from nowhere, or so I believed at the time. They would strike while I was driving, eating, working or just walking through a shopping centre.

What causes this, enough is enough, was always in my thoughts. My mind kept up the questions, Why is that happening, why is that happening, O god don’t let that happen. And the greatest fear of an Anxiety attack/disorder sufferer, is to have another attack. You try to stay at home but even here, you’re not safe. Can anyone imagine what its like to wake up in the middle of an attack, when the brain has had free choice to think what ever it likes. If you don’t have anxiety, you cannot comprehend this point.

You face family, friends and work colleagues daily but no one wants to really talk about it. All you find is this silent invisible barrier of denial, it’s a bit embarrassing or lets just sweep it under the carpet and hope it goes away attitude. More importantly, they don’t want to admit they are a long time sufferers also.

Anxiety attacks create a situation where you the sufferer loose control over your body. Stop what you are, close your eyes to cancel external triggers and keep the focus your mind on your symptoms.

We need to fight the symptoms of the anxiety attack head on. Relax your mussels buy talking to your self with a focus on each set of mussels you are relaxing. Reduce your breathing rate to a slow long intake of air and just as long as you breath out. Shake the stiffness out.

The battle of the mind is the key to overcoming anxiety. Produce mental images in your brain, of you being in COMMAND of the situation. The more senses you bring in the less chance there is for the anxiety to remain a focus point in your brain. Breaking the fear cycle with good happy events reduces the power of the attack, because the brain will not be able focus enough on the symptoms.
