Discover Why Traditional Diets Don’t Work

September 1st, 2009 · No Comments · Weight Loss

Are you sick of trying diet after diet with not much to show for it? What is it with diets that simply don’t work? A lot of people still believe the myth that drastically reducing your food intake will bring about weight loss. What really happens is when we go on a low calorie diet we are more likely to remain the same or even gain weight. As humans we are designed to read reduced food intake with starvation. By restricting our food intake we trigger our body’s starvation preservation mode.

All the weight loss studies show that normal weight and healthy people usually eat foods that contain lots of complex carbohydrates (like veggies, cereals etc) and most people who are overweight are found to have diets that contain more fat and simple carbs. Understanding what studies tell us about what contributes to weight loss is important when designing a weight loss plan. One of the best ways to lose weight quickly is to start a low carb diet where you control just how much high GI carbohydrate you consume each day, but are not too concerned about the other foods. Don’t see this as an excuse to overeat, as you still need to watch quantities, by carefully managiing your portion sizes, and ensuring you get the right balance of healthy nutritious foods which are also low in saturated fats.

Lifestyle and eating habits contribute greatly to gaining weight and the weight gradually crept up over time rather than overnight. As the weight gain didn’t happen overnight, it will also take time to lose weight in a healthy fashion. People who don’t understand the balance between eating healthily, drinking enough water, physical exercises and making sure they get enough sleep are easy pickings to the marketing companies pushing the latest fad diet, diet pill or quick weight loss program. You can find these fad diets, pills and programs in every media including TV, radio, magazines, books, and the Internet. Because most individuals today have been programmed to want everything now, it is easier to believe that there is a magic pill, drink, or program that can take the excess weight off quickly, than to conceive that we have the ability to re-structure our lives and live a healthier and longer life where being overweight is behind us in the past.

Most diets will fail because they do not show you how to create a balance within your body. Diets fail because they are structured around making someone or some company rich instead of creating a diet plan or system that will truly assist a person to lose weight.

It is a known fact that those who are carrying excess weight are more likely to succumb to illnesses and other life shortening health conditions as a result of obesity. Excessive fat and processed carbs in your diet is one of the main contributors to surplus body fat.

People have been taught for far too long that they need to eat a lot less or watch every last calorie to be able to shed those excess pounds. In actual fact our bodies know how to manage weight assuming that we give them what they need to stay healthy – such as proper amounts of sleep, drink enough water, wholesome and nutritious foods, and regular exercise.

Losing weight is not all about calorie counting, you also need to avoid eating in excess. Healthy portions of nutritious foods are vital to losing weight. Equally important to losing weight is to keep physically active. Our bodies respond well to physical exertion!
